2006

  • Electronic Health Library of BC (e-HLbc): Improving access to knowledge for BC's health professionals

    Effective January 2006, the e-HLbc consortium was formed to purchase province-wide access to selected resources (databases, indexes, abstracts and full-text) . Membership is comprised of 6 health authorities, 24 post-secondary institutions, 3 provincial ministries, the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and other health professional organizations.

  • The General Meeting of HLABC was held on Wednesday, December 6th in the CRC Boardroom across the hall from the BC Cancer Agency’s Rix Family Discovery Centre, main floor of 675 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.  For information on our invited speaker, Dr. David Marsh, please see the HLABC Presentations page.  At 8:10 pm, our General Meeting commenced.  We discussed the upcoming January social and topics for the coming year. 
  • The HLABC AGM and Dinner was held at the Water Street Cafe in Gastown on May 16, 2006.  Many of our HLABC members were on the organizing committee for the CHLA conference that was held in Vancouver, May 12 to 16th.  Many of the HLABC members attending the AGM participated in the CE courses, paper presentations, and posters presentations of the CHLA conference.  At the AGM the HLABC committees presented on the past years activities.  Discussion followed among the attendees on the challanges and opportunities for 2006 / 2007.  Possible CE topics for the upcoming year were discussed and the new executive was acclaimed. 
  • The HLABC meeting of March 28th was held at the Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, 3644 Slocan Street.  The meeting and presentation was videocast to Kelowna and Nanaimo. 
  • The first general meeting for HLABC members was held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Vancouver General Hospital. ILL rates for HLABC members and their libraries from any branch of the UBC Library (medical and non-medical) have been reduced to $5 per article or book.

2005

  • This general meeting, held October 20, 2005 at 7pm, utilized the videoconferencing facilities of the BC Cancer Agency. Links were established with Kelowna, Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, and Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
  • The HLABC general meeting was held on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 7pm at the BC Cancer building at 600 West 10th. This meeting utilized their videoconferencing facilities.  We broadcast to the cancer centres in Victoria and Kelowna and to the Prince George Regional Hospital.  

2004

  • EBSCO  presented a workshop on the CINAHL database on November 3, 2004 in the Woodward Library.  EBSCO recently purchased CINAHL and the workshop highlighted how the company is integrating CINAHL into their product line.  If you have any questions regarding CINAHL or EBSCO you may email Lisa-Jane Watson at watson-at-ebsco.com
  • The last HLABC general meeting was held Tuesday evening October 5th, 2004 at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology & Evaluation
  • The HLABC AGM and Continuing Education sessions were held June 11th, 2004 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. The sessions were two half day seminars. The AGM was held in the evening and the new executive was selected.

  • Our newsletter, HLABC Forum, was published electronically for the first time with the first issue in 2001

  • MLA teleconference: The Effects of E-Journals on Your Library
  • Hosting a full day new DOCLINE training session by CISTI's DOCLINE Coordinator William Wueppelmann
  • Survey of HLABC member libraries information needs, including which databases we need access to on a regular basis
  • Compiling a list of HLABC favourite web sites, which can be accessed from the PHLiNCH web site
  • Joint initative with the BC Ministry of Health Library to develop PHLiNCH
